Toward Optimized Practice

develop.pngThe AMA focus on the development of Clinic Level Physician Champions is at the macro level, where it is efficient and pragmatic to take a provincial approach. This includes defining Physician Champion competencies, creating and curating opportunities to build competencies, and providing networking opportunities for Physician Champions from across the province to connect.

Physician Champion Competencies:  Clinic Level Physician Champions (Draft)
This competency set was drafted using the Change Agent Competency Model to define the competencies of clinic level physician champions.  It is part of a larger (draft) competency set that outlines the competencies for physician champions and leaders at clinic, PCN, PCN Board, zone, and provincial levels.  For more information on this document set, please contact networks@albertadoctors org.

It will take approximately 4-hours to complete the course and it has been specifically designed for primary care physicians, clinical team members, and Practice Facilitators in Alberta. This made in Alberta podcast series interviews physicians, leaders, and others from across Alberta (and beyond!) about their journeys building Patient's Medical Homes. Just as a house is not built or renovated overnight, creating a Patient's Medical Home takes time and planning. ‘One Nail at a Time’ highlights stories, strategies, and tips for making incremental changes toward PMH transformation.

Physician Champion peers have recorded content on relevant Patient’s Medical Home topic areas and provided slide decks for other physician champions to tap into.

The IHI Open School is a global learning community with a focus on building core skills in improvement, safety, system design, and leadership. The AMA currently holds a license through to January 2021 for Physician Champions to access the online learning modules free of charge.
